Chinese science fiction has ushered in remarkable development since the 21stcentury.In2015,the science fiction San Ti written by Liu Cixin won the Hugo Award for Best Novel. Its success is to a large extent attributed to its high-quality English translation by Ken Liu.Text linguistics promotes the development of translation theory and practice. In translation practice, the text has been regarded as the basic unit in the translation process by an increasing number of scholars. This thesis adopts a text-linguistic approach to make an in-depth textual analysis of The Three-Body Problem from the seven standards of textuality, trying to find the key to the success of science fiction translation.By using the seven standards of textuality as the framework, the author of this thesis analyzes both the linguistic factors and the non-linguistic factors of the source text and the target text and studies how the translator recreates the original text both at the micro-level and the macro-level and how the target text stands as a text on its own in the target context.Through a detailed analysis of every standard, this thesis draws two main conclusions.First, the English translation The Three-Body Problem meets the seven standards of textuality in general.Second, the seven standards of textuality can be applied both as translation principles to guide the translation process and as a framework to evaluate the translation quality of a science fiction novel. The author of this thesis tries to provide a new perspective for the study of English translation of Chinese science fiction, and promote more outstanding Chinese science fiction to go global and spread widely in the western world so that the western world could better understand and accept Chinese science fiction and Chinese culture.
