A Study On WangZengqi’s Novels From The Perspective Of Literary Geography

Wang Zengqi traveled extensively and spent his whole life on the road to see the world.Since he was a child,he loved to see the world from the east and the west,so it makes sense that he had a wealth of geographical experience.His geographic experience across geographic regions plays a crucial role in his literary creation,especially in his novels.Starting from the geographical space involved in the text,we can find that the geographical landscape with regional characteristics,characters and folk culture are the main skeleton for Wang Zengqi to construct the geographical space of his novels.In addition,when it comes to the differences in geographical landscapes,regional language is also a key element.Wang Zengqi,who attaches great importance to language,not only emphasizes the importance of dialects in his view of language,but also uses the dialects he has accumulated in Gaoyou,Zhangjiakou,Shanghai,and Beijing in the creation of his novels,adding a strong local flavor to his novels.The motivation for his novels is that they are literary expressions of his geographical experiences.Wang Zengqi’s complex geographical roots(Gaoyou,his hometown;Kunming,his place of study;Shanghai,his temporary residence;Zhangjiakou,his place of deportation;and Beijing,his place of settlement)and his emotional history influence his emotional experience of a certain place,and the geographical memory brought by his geographical roots also influences the setting of his novels,which almost focus on the four places of Gaoyou,Kunming,Zhangjiakou,and Beijing as the main activities of Beijing.In addition,his choice of language expression,aesthetic pursuit,character portrayal,and expression techniques is also influenced by the different regional cultures constituted by his native culture and guest culture.As for the value of Wang Zengqi’s novels viewed from the perspective of literary geography,certain regularities can be seen.Wang Zengqi’s geographical perception influenced his creative style,which focuses on "writing the mood" and creating the tragic meaning of "knowing that there are many bitter people in the world".In the contemporary literary world,Wang Zengqi’s geographical landscape writing also provided him with an opportunity to continue the "private narrative" of the 1920 s literary world,and his aesthetics of life,which was detached from mainstream value judgments,led to a revival of aesthetic awareness in contemporary literature.Moreover,Wang Zengqi’s fictional achievements have "given proper name" to his hometown of Gaoyou,a small town in northern Jiangsu,and have set a new writing model for the contemporary Rixia River novel genre in Jiangsu.
