| Descriptive Translation Studies and Beyond is a masterpiece of Gideon Toury. There is no Chinese translation of this book.Based on the E-C translation practice of the academic monograph, this practice report is aimed at providing corresponding solutions for the translation difficulties encountered in the translation process under the guidance of Relevance Translation Theory.During the translation process, two translation difficulties are summarized.Firstly, understanding the informative and communicative intentions of the original author is the first translation difficulty. The second is ways to express the original author’s informative and communicative intentions clearly and smoothly,so that the target readers can get similar reading experience as the original readers.First of all, causes of the two translation difficulties are discussed in this report.First, the author is restricted by lexical information, and the original text is mostly words and terminology.Second,at the syntactic level, there are many long and complex sentences. It is difficult for the author to clarify the logical relationship.Third, the author is limited by encyclopedic information. Then, the corresponding solutions are given.Through finding the communicative clues such as lexical clues, syntactic clues and discourse connective clues, the author clarifies the logical relationship of sentences, and understands the original author’s ostentation deeply. On this basis, the author infers the original author’s informative intention.By providing readers sufficient contextual effects, the author tries to convey the intentions of the original text clearly. In terms of the expression, the author tries to express the inference mode of the original text,so as to make the inference mode of the target readers the same as that of the source readers and achieve faithful communicative translation. This report is aimed at providing effective suggestions for translators to solve typical problems in monograph translation and improve translation quality. |
