The Form Features And Auspicious Cultural Connatation Of Chinese Traditional Moire Patterns

Due to the limitation of production and living standards in ancient times,clouds and nature affected people’s harvests and livelihoods,so they had a sense of awe and worship for clouds.The image of cloud in people’s mind has been abstracted and sublimated,forming an important component of traditional Chinese visual elements--moire.As a decorative pattern with unique Chinese national characteristics,moires are endowed with exaltation,auspiciousness and wishfulness,which formed an important reason that moires can last forever.Moires are widely used in various fields of architecture,furniture,and decoration,occupied an important position in the history of Chinese design.Moires are born out of national culture,form an important part of the cultural heritage and the embodiment of aesthetic fashion.The characteristics and auspicious connotation of traditional Chinese moire patterns are choosed in this paper,which contains five parts to discuss.Chapter 1 discusses the origin of moire,containing two aspects: cultural origin and morphological origin of moire.Chapter 2 describes the classification and evolution of moire.Chapter 3 analyzes the morphological and aesthetic characteristics of moire,summarizes its morphological characteristics as four points:the curve shape is elegant,soft,full of movement;the sense of rhythm gives a feeling of repeatability and continuity repetition and continuity;the pictograms are general,intuitive and symbolic;the rich onfiguration have deep and broad shape space.On the other hand,Chapter 3 summarizing aesthetic characteristics of moire into four points: Yunqi theory,Taiji theory,Harmony theory and auspicious theory.Chapter 4 starts from the auspicious concept and culture,discussing the cultural connotation of moire,including nature worship,totem worship,Taoism,god worship,confucianism and ancestors worship.The last chapter discusses the application of moire culture in three aspects: the value of moire pattern,the application method of moire and the combine of moire pattern and auspicious culture.The graduation design is created in the form of illustrations to reflect "Chinese style" and modernization of the moire.In this paper,the form and characteristics of the moire patterns are studied,and the internalized to the moire’s auspicious cultural connotation.The perspective of folklore,life aesthetics,history,and social culture are used to analyze the specific direction and formation reason of the moire’s auspicious connotation,in order to explore the unique aesthetic cognition and aesthetic pursuit of the Chinese nation.
