| At present,The Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards(2011:20)points out in the process of teaching,teachers should constantly stimulate and strengthen students’ learning interest and guide them transform their interest into a stable learning motivation,so as to enable them to maintain a positive attitude towards learning English,build up their self-confidence in learning English,and let them realize their advantages and disadvantages in English.However,in our country,there are still some problems in junior middle school English teaching,such as the single form of teaching,the single content of teaching,the low interest of students in learning English and students even hate to learn English.Compared with the traditional teaching method,game-based teaching technique asks students participate in the process of teaching actively.It can enhance students’ learning interest,improve students’ learning motivation and make students learn English in a relaxed and happy atmosphere.Many domestic scholars have tried to explore and study this teaching method,but most of them focus on primary schools,and less research is done in junior middle schools.Based on Herbart’s theory of interest,learner’s psychology,and Dewey’s theory of“learning by doing”,this paper is to study the role of game-based teaching technique in junior middle school English teaching.The author takes two parallel-classes in total 68 students as the experimental subjects and these students are from Dongjie Yifu School in Xinjiang County,Yuncheng City,Shanxi Province.The experimental class adopts the game-based teaching technique,while the control class adopts the traditional teaching method.The research is focused on 2 questions: whether the game-based teaching technique is helpful to improve students’ learning interest and stimulate students’ learning motivation;students’ preference on game types and whether game-based teaching technique can improve junior middle school students’ English proficiency.After the experiment,the author uses the SPSS 22.0 to analyze the statistics of questionnaires and the results of test.Through the analysis of questionnaires and the results of students’ interview,it can be found that game-based teaching can activate classroom atmosphere,enhance student’ learning interest and stimulate students’ learning motivation,after game-based teaching an increasing number of students like to learn English,and they also have more confidence to learn English.In addition,game-based teaching can promote the friendship among students,and cultivate students’ sense of competition.Most students indicate that they prefer game-based teaching to traditional teaching,and compared with grammar games,sentence pattern games,and communicative games,students prefer vocabulary games.Compared with the results of pre-test and post-test,most students’ English grades have improved in the experimental class,which indicates game-based teaching has a certain effect on junior middle school students’ English proficiency.All in all,game-based teaching has certain influences on stimulating students’ interest in learning English,enhancing their intrinsic motivation and improving their English learning proficiency.In terms of the problems that appear in the process of teaching,the author thinks that in the future teaching,teachers should pay attention to grasping the relationship between games and teaching content,laying stress on the diversity of games,mastering the time of using games in class and dealing with classroom chaos that is caused by games. |
