| English classroom observation and assessment is considered to be a direct and effective way to observe and evaluate English teaching,which can be regarding as a main research work of senior high school English teachers.Classroom observation is the basic link in this activity,which provides the object for assessment in a direct and objective way.Assessment is the purpose,which provides the feedback by using the effective and reasonable evaluation.Under the guidance of National English Curriculum Standards for General High School(2017 Edition),this thesis takes five senior high schools in Taiyuan,Shanxi province as examples,in order to investigate and analyze the status quo of English classroom observation and assessment in senior high schools.Firstly,the author distributed questionnaires,which aims at investigating senior high school English teachers’ perception of and participation in classroom observation and assessment,the rules and regulations of English classroom observation and assessment.Secondly,the author collected 55 senior high school English teachers’ lecture notebooks,which is intended to analyze the design characteristics and filling characteristics.Thirdly,the author aimed to observe 26 assessments of 13 English teachers according to the observation scale,in order to understand the actual development of the current English assessment.The specific research questions are as follows:1.What perception do English teachers in senior high schools have of COA? And what is their level of participation?2.What are the rules and regulations of COA in current senior high schools?3.What are the characteristics of current senior high school English teachers’ lecture notebooks?4.How is the implementation of current English assessment in senior high schools?Based on discussion,the author came to the conclusions as follows:As for perception,the value of English classroom observation and assessment has not been noticed.Because of the lack of professional guidance and coupled with the usual teaching pressure,65.45% of senior high school English teachers consider the classroom observation and assessment as a passive task.As for participation,the most attention paid by senior high school English teachers is instructors’ teaching,and the random participation is more frequent than the systematic,organized,and planned participation.As for rules and regulations,although the current senior high schools have clear and specific requirements for times,they do not provide a scientific and reasonable implementation plan.As for lecture notebooks: in the design,52.73% of the English teachers have a special lecture notebook.89.09% of the lecture notebooks have clear instructions,which has no characteristics of English subject.In the filling,the most frequently recorded content is specific language points.20% of the English teachers have descriptions of students’ English Subject Core Competency.As for observation: firstly,current high school English teachers lack cooperation and communication,which illustrates that they lacked the awareness of community of practice.Secondly,the current English assessments have paid more attention to English teachers than to students’ English learning,which ignores the cultivation of students’ English Subject Core Competency.Thirdly,the current English assessments neglect to promote teaching and learning by evaluation.Based on the above research results,this thesis puts forward suggestions to both senior high schools and English teachers from the perspective of improving the status quo of English classroom observation and assessment.It’s vital to promote English teachers’ ability of professional development and implement students’ English Subject Core Competency. |
