In the1960s,Receptional Aesthetic Theory emerged in the Western.Receptional Aesthetic Theory emphasizes the central role of the reader and puts focus on the aesthetic experience of the reader.A Thousand Years of Good Prayers is the first collection of short stories of Li Yiyun,a famous Chinese-American author in America.Based on Receptional aesthetic theory,this report completes the translation work of the first story of this collection and analyzes the problems in translation practice as well as elaborating the aesthetic strategy in literary translation.This report contains four major sections.The first section introduces the research background,research significance and methods.The second describes the characteristics of Chinese-American literature,makes a brief introduction to Receptional aesthetic theory,which includes three aspects:reader-centered theory,horizon of expectation,aesthetic distance.The following section illustrates concrete application in Receptional aesthetic theory through translation cases.This report makes a discussion on vocabulary and statement under the guidance of Receptional Aesthetic Theory through cases from the translator’s work.And this report gives an idea that translator can use Receptional Aesthetic Theory as a guidance in literal translation.The last summarizes the gains,deficiencies and problems encountered in the translation process.
