| The Tibetan people have created the Tibetan culture with distinctive ethnic characteristics.Tibetan gnomic verse is concise and comprehensive,and it is rich in life philosophy.As an indispensable part of Tibetan culture and Chinese culture,its content involves Tibetan society,religion,education etc.,which has an important cultural influence.Selected Stories from Tibetan Gnomic Works,written by Professor He Wenxuan,is one of the outstanding representatives of Tibetan gnomic verses.It mainly introduces Tibetan gnomic stories.Each gnomic verse is divided into two parts,namely,the aphorism part which explains the truth and the story part that makes metaphor for the aphorism.The translator selects 33 of gnomic verses as translation materials.The gnomic stories advocate punishing the evil and praising the good,so the connotation of which conforms to the core socialist values.In this translation practice,there are some difficulties including the translation of culture-loaded words,names of Tibetan people and places etc.The translator adopts communication theory to guide the translation to solve the translation problems and promote the spread of Tibetan culture.According to communication theory,the process of translation is the process of communicating information,and the purpose of translation is for cultural exchange.The source text is rich in Tibetan cultural characteristics.In the process of translation,translators should not only consider the retention of the original information,but also think about the readers’ acceptability to the communication content.This translation report applies the communication elements including communicator,message,audience,media and effect to translation,that is,to discuss the relationship between the translator,the text media and audiences with the communication effect as the core,and adopt different translation strategies such as adding,omission and annotation etc.,so as to effectively communicate the information.This translation report is divided into five parts.The first part introduces the translation project generally,including background,purpose and significance,basic information of translation materials,requirements and feasibility of the project;the second part describes the process of pre-translation,in-translation and post-translation;the third part mainly introduces the communication theory and the relationship between communication and translation;the fourth part analyzes different techniques in the translation practice under the communicator,information,media,audience and effect.The last part is a summary,including the limitations and gains in translation practice. |
