The Study On Paratexts And The Translation Of Proper Nouns In The Lord Of The Rings From The Perspective Of Secondary World Construction

The Lord of the Rings has become popular in China since Peter Jackson’s eponymous film series was released in the early 2000s.Then,a number of translations have been published but haven’t been accepted by all the readers.This has aroused my interest to study the translation from the perspective of "constructing the Secondary World",including how the original author created the "Secondary World" with naming system of proper nouns,how different translators reproduced the "Secondary World" in the target language culture,and whether the establishment of the proper nouns naming system is helpful to the construction of the " Secondary World" in the target language.Finally,this paper discusses the feasibility of incorporating the proper nouns naming system,which is conducive to the reconstruction of the "Secondary World" in the original works,into the standard of proper nouns translation.This study seeks to investigate the translation of proper nouns in the two versions based on translation criticism.The number and types of proper nouns involved in this paper are very rich,which can not only provide reference for the follow-up research,but also supplement the standard of proper nouns translation in the existing fantasy literature.
