The Bailianjiao Uprising in Sichuan and Chu Dynasty refers to a peasant uprising that took place in the first year of Jiaqing(1796),which centered on the border area of Sichuan,Chu and Shaanxi provinces and spread to Gansu and Henan. This uprising lasted nine years and was the largest peasant uprising in the middle of the Qing Dynasty. The uprising was called the "Bailianjiao Rebellion" because its founders practiced a secret folk religion called Bailianjiao. The Bailianjiao Uprising in Sichuan and Chu Dynasties was closely related to the national population pressure after the middle period of Qianlong Dynasty.Influened by the population pressure, the Bailianjiao Uprising in Sichuan and Chu Dynasties was on the verge of collapse in its social system, economic system, political system and ideological system. The rebellion of Bailianjiao in Sichuan and Chu lasted nine years, during which the social changes of population in Sichuan and Chu region were also deeply affected by the uprising.Based on the analysis of the background, causes and process of the Bailianjiao Uprising in Sichuan and Chu Dynasties, the Uprising had different characteristics from other similar uprisings in history. The Bailianjiao Uprising in Sichuan and Chu had an impact on the population and even the social and economic order in the region. The changes of population and society in Chuan-Chu region during the Qianlong period led to the Bailianjiao Uprising. In the late period of qianlong dynasty, the national population pressure was increasing, the sichuan and chu areas were rich and few people in the past, but under the unprecedented population pressure this time, they became the concentration of immigrants(mostly refugees)from all provinces. From the population pressure to the uprising, there are economic, political, social, ideological and cultural changes in the middle.According to the concept of "the edge of the inland",this paper probes into the reasons of the uprising from the aspects of economic system, political system, social system and ideological and cultural system. The uprisings of Bailianjiao in Sichuan and Chu Dynasties were accompanied by population changes. The uprising can be divided into three periods: pre-uprising,mid-uprising and post-uprising.This paper analyzes the changes of population size, region and society in each period one by one.The Bailianjiao Uprising in Sichuan and Chu Dynasties and the population changes in Sichuan and Chu Dynasties interacted with each other. In the uprisings of Bailianjiao in Sichuan and Chu dynasties, there were many insurgent elements, the largest number of refugees, the wide distribution of insurgent forces and the lack of population control, which were different from other similar uprisings in the middle and early Qing dynasties. The rebellion not only relieved the population pressure but also pulled the man-land relationship back to a looser state. At the same time, the Qing government intended to strengthen the political control of the population in the Chuan-Chu region, but due to improper measures and ineffective implementation, the state system in the Chuan-Chu region failed to be completed. After the uprisings of Bailianjiao in sichuan and chu were subjugated, the displaced people from other provinces re-entered this area, which made the relationship between people and land in sichuan and chu area increasingly tense, and the displaced people problem became an important problem in sichuan and chu area again.
