A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Challenges And Opportunities In The Postcovid-19 World(Excerpts)

The Covid-19 global pandemic is a serious crisis and a daunting challenge that knows no boundaries,posing a grave threat to human life and health.How to rise to the challenges during and after the pandemic has drawn wide attention from all sectors of society.Against this background,the World Economic Forum(WEF)has published an electronic collection of essays entitled Challenges and Opportunities in the Post-COVID-19 World,which systematically presents the opinions and suggestions of experts from the international community on global cooperation,economic reconstruction,health care and other aspects.This collection of essays belongs to a review of international current affairs,namely the political text.Combining with pragmatic translation theory,this report studies problems in the translation practice and proposes solutions correspondingly.This report is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction,which introduces the task background and purpose and significance of this translation practice report.The second part is the task description,which introduces the translation task and the source text.The third part describes the process of translation including pre-translation,translation and post-translation stages.In the fourth part,translation cases are analyzed mainly from two perspectives: adaptation of linguistic context(linguistic factors)and adaptation of communicative context(non-linguistic factors).The adaptation of linguistic context mainly focuses on contextual cohesion,intertextuality and sequencing.The adaptation of communicative context includes the adaptation of social world,mental world and physical world.The translator tries to analyze translation phenomena,translation strategies and expression effects from the perspective of contextual adaptation.The fifth part summarizes the whole translation task.From the perspective of pragmatic translation,this report mainly focuses on studying the relationship between context and translation based on translation practice and the guidance and application of contextual adaptation in translation practice.In the process of translation,the translator first clarifies the purpose of translation,then analyzes the translation phenomenon,chooses appropriate translation strategies,analyzes the expression effect,and tries to achieve pragmatic equivalence in translation as far as possible.Through translation practice and research,the translator finds that contextual adaptation theory has a strong explanatory ability for translation phenomena and a certain theoretical reference significance for translation practice and further reflects the important roles of translators in translation.
