| To conform the trend of social development and meet their own development,learning English has become inevitable for deaf students.Learning English can not only expand their horizons,but also improve their competitiveness and promote their own development.English textbooks play an important role in English learning,but the current English textbooks Go for it are not originally written and designed for deaf students,but for normal students.Therefore,it is worth studying whether these textbooks are suitable for high school deaf students,and to what extent they can meet the needs of high school deaf students in English learning.Based on the theory of textbook evaluation proposed by Cheng Xiaotang,from the objectives and specialties of English teaching for deaf students in high schools,the internal text analysis turns out that they can basically meet the teaching demand of deaf students in high school,the external analysis including deaf students questionnaire and teacher interview turns out that deaf students are satisfied with the textbooks,and teachers think the textbooks are fit for deaf students although there are some deficiencies at the same time.Thus,Go for it textbooks are comparatively suitable for deaf students in high school.The advantages of the textbooks are as follows: the topics are close to daily life,the grammar design is logical,the genres of reading and writing are abundant and reasonably distributed,and the illustrations are vivid and interesting.The disadvantages of the textbooks are as follows: the vocabulary of the textbooks is too large for deaf students,the length of the article is too long,and the difficulty between third and fourth volumes of the textbooks is unreasonable.In addition,it is found that teachers’ attitude towards deaf students affects deaf students’ evaluation of their own ability and textbooks.In light of the above research results,some suggestions on the usage and compilation of textbooks are given: When teachers use Go for it,they should build correct concepts of deaf students—correctly view the advantages and disadvantages of deaf students,improve their teaching competence,enhance the cooperation between teachers,and adjust textbooks appropriately.The English textbooks designed for deaf students should be based on the characteristics of deaf students,slow down the sequence of difficulty,reduce vocabulary,and increase interest and so on. |
