| Toni Morrison,as the laureate of Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993,is one of the most important black writers in contemporary American literature.With the unique perspective of black women,she objectively and truly reproduces the difficult living conditions of black American women.Paradise was Morrison’s first novel after she received the Nobel Prize and the third one of her trilogy.In Paradise,Morrison relates race with gender and nature very closely and realize that women,nature and colored people are oppressed by the same source,which is the patriarchy.Only when the discriminations against nature and women were abandoned simultaneously do we realize the harmonious coexistence between human and nature,man and woman,which happens to hold the same view with the central idea of ecofeminism.This thesis will analyze the internalize racism,rigid hierarchy under the influence of the patriarchy,and the interconnection between women and nature dominated by men,combining the basic ideas of ecofeminism,reflecting how women face confusion,dilemma,awakening,pursuit and rebuild themselves from their mind.It shows Morrison’s desire to construct a society in which man and nature coexist harmoniously and men and women coexist equally.At the same time,it also provides enlightenment for humans to pay attention to the present situation of female survival and ecological crisis,respect women,love nature,and promote the harmonious development between human and nature. |
