With the development of globalization, the number of multilingual linguistic landscape increase sharply, and relative research has also focused on the social background reflected by this phenomenon. The production of multilingual linguistic landscapes involves the transfer between languages,so translation activities are essential in this process.Linguistic landscape can reflect the social backgrounds in certain regions, which means that its translation is also worth exploring from a broader perspective to find out the complicated factors that affect the translation process, rather than just focusing on the traditional error analysis at the textual level. This thesis aims to study the translation of linguistic landscapes on Zhongyang Street in Harbin to summarizes features in its translation. As a unique tourist attraction with a long history, the study on the translation of linguistic landscapes on Zhong Street can provide advice for the study of linguistic landscapes in other places.Based on the theory of translational norms proposed by Toury, this thesis analyzes the translation of linguistic landscapes on Zhongyang Street in Harbin, explores the different characteristics of the translation of language landscapes on Zhonngyang Street at three levels, initial norms, preliminary norms, and operational norms, and finds out the factors influencing its translation.According to the characteristics of linguistic landscape, the translations are divided into top-down signs and bottom-up signs to discusses them respectively, and summarizes the patterns of the C-E translation in two different kinds of signs.Through the analysis, this study finds that the translation of top-down signs and bottom-up signs on Zhongyang Street reflect different translational norms. From the perspective of initial norms, the translation of top-down signs tends to follow the norms of source language and culture, which produces an adequate translation, while bottom-up signs show acceptability in translation for considering the norms in the target language and culture. From the perspective of preliminary norms,top-down signs normally choose texts with strong informative functions to translate, while bottom-up signs focus on the information that helps to gain profits, with a wider range of texts translated. From the perspective of operational norms, most top-down signs retain the source language information completely in translation, and the translation of some special expression is closer to the source language.Meanwhile, translation of bottom-up signs includes addition, omission, replacement of the source texts more often, and is more flexible to deal with special expressions.
