A Report On Error Analysis And Reflection Of Chinese-english Consecutive Interpretation

Interpretation is an oral translation from one language to another.In general,the standard of interpretation is fast,accurate,and smooth.That is,to express the speaker’s intention accurately and smoothly within a certain time.However,in the process of interpretation,interpreters will inevitably make inaccurate and influent expressions and other errors,which lead to listeners’ misunderstanding of the speaker’s intention.Therefore,the analysis of errors in interpretation will be helpful to discover the frequency,form and cause of errors.Thus,the quality of the interpreter’s translations and the effectiveness of information transmission will be improved by correcting errors.The material of this Chinese-English consecutive interpretation practice chosen by the author is the online course History of Chinese Architecture launched by Tsinghua University on the MOOC and ed X platforms.The main content of History of Chinese Architecture is the development history of Chinese architecture from the pre-Qin period to Song,Ming and Qing Dynasties.The author chooses the third lecture as the simulated consecutive interpretation material,which is mainly about the history of Chinese architecture in Three Kingdoms,Eastern and Western Jin Dynasties and Southern and Northern Dynasties.Based on five error analyzing steps of error analysis theory and Professor Mei Deming’s interpretation quality evaluation standards of “accurate and fluent”,the author finds that the errors in this practice mainly lie in omission,mistranslation and unsmooth expression through self-evaluation and interpreting teachers’ evaluation.The specific error forms include partial information omission,sentence omission,grammatical errors,improper vocabulary selection,pause and re-correction.Most of them are caused by mistakes in recording and interpretation of notes and lacking ofextra-linguistic knowledge.Through this interpretation practice,on the one hand,the author hopes to improve her interpreting ability,to learn more about the relevant knowledge as well as attract more people from home and abroad to pay more attention to Chinese ancient architecture.On the other hand,based on the analysis and reflection of errors,the author finds the existing problems,improves the deficiency,and decreases the frequency of errors,so as to improve the quality of interpretation.Also,this report provides references for other interpreters when interpreting similar materials and offers ideas for relevant researches.
