English reading plays an important role in English education,students are not only required to have a good understanding of the words,but also have the comprehensive ability to use the language.On the current situation of English reading teaching in secondary vocational school,many teachers still use the traditional “teacher talk only”reading teaching method which focuses too much on the grammar,vocabulary and sentence structure.It leads to the unsatisfactory teaching efficiency.Therefore,secondary vocational English reading teaching has been of great significance in research.This study is devoted to the application of Goal Setting Theory in English reading teaching of secondary vocational schools.It attempts to explore the following three questions through teaching experiments,questionnaires and interviews:(1)What effect does the application of Goal Setting Theory in English reading teaching of secondary vocational schools have on improving secondary vocational students’ attitude in English reading learning ?(2)What’s the effect of goal setting reading training on secondary vocational school students’ English reading motivation?(3)Can the application of Goal Setting Theory in English reading teaching of secondary vocational schools improve secondary vocational students’ ability of using English reading strategies?Based on the Goal Setting Theory,the study changes the traditional teaching mode of English reading in teaching practice.On the basis of the factors and mechanism that goal affects people’s behavior,it designs specific teaching steps of goal-oriented in secondary vocational English reading class,summarizes the specific steps and methods of goal-setting reading teaching,and conducts goal-setting reading training for the students in the experimental class.The traditional teaching mode is applied as a comparison in the control class.The questionnaire for students is mainly launched from the following three aspects:(1)The use of English reading teaching methods in secondary vocational schools;(2)Investigation on the attitude and motivation of secondary vocational school students towards English reading learning;(3)Reading ability and reading strategies of secondary vocational school students.Interviews with students are mainly carried out from the following aspects:(1)Students’ evaluation of goal-setting reading teaching methods;(2)Students’ evaluation of teachers’ teaching attitude and teaching methods;(3)The changes of students in English reading learning.At last,through the analysis of the questionnaire results,English reading test results and interview results collected before and after the implementation of the experiment.It is found that Goal Setting Theory has achieved good results in English reading teaching of secondaryvocational schools.The results show that:(1)The application of Goal Setting Theory in English reading teaching of secondary vocational schools can improve students’ interest in English reading and improve their attitude towards English reading;(2)Goal setting reading training helps to promote secondary vocational school students’ positive change in English reading motivation;(3)Goal setting reading training is conducive to improving secondary vocational school students’ ability of using English reading strategies and skills,besides,goal setting reading teaching can improve secondary vocational school students’ cooperative learning ability.
