The traditional English listening teaching methods can no longer satisfy the requirements of the new era.Researching and exploring more effective listening teaching methods and theories to improve students’ listening comprehension are important research topics in senior high school English listening teaching. In facing these problems, many teachers and researchers have proposed different teaching methods for English listening, but most of them are about empirical teaching methods, and a systematic teaching model has not yet been formed. Most of the domestic researchers have also tried to apply FOCUS ON FORM on English grammar and vocabulary, and fewer of them do preemptive FOCUS ON FORM applied research in English listening teaching. This research will explore the application of preemptive FOCUS ON FORM of high school English listening teaching based on the information processing theory, and try to answer the following two questions:(1)Is preemptive FOCUS ON FORM more conducive to senior high school English listening teaching than traditional teaching methods based on information processing theory?(2)Can the teaching effect on the preemptive FOCUS ON FORM be sustained? This study used quasi-experimental methods: To ensure the accuracy of the experiment, the researchers did a pre-listening vocabulary familiarization questionnaire for the experimental class, and the researchers recorded the experimental process and arranged three post-tests.The subject of this study is three parallel classes of first grade in a senior high school in Jilin Province.Class A is the experimental group,Class B is the control group. In order to ensure that the experimental vocabulary is a new word for Class A and B,Class C with no significant difference from Class A and B is the pre-listening vocabulary selection group. The experimental time was four months. The experimental group adopts the preemptive FOCUS ON FORM teaching method, and the control group adopts the traditional listening teaching method.Researchers sorted out experimental data by recalling and reflecting on the classroom teaching process.Subsequently, three post-tests were analyzed by SPSS23.0 software, and the results of the experimental class and the control class were found to be significantly different. The results of this study indicate:(1)Compared with the traditional teaching method, preemptive FOCUS ON FORM teaching is more conducive to English listening teaching in senior high school, and it can availably improve senior high school students’ English listening ability.(2)Preemptive FOCUS ON FORM teaching effect is sustained. Therefore, preemptive FOCUS ON FORM teaching can help students reduce listening pressure, ensure access to sound and meanings, achieve processing information rapidly, improve the ability of information acquirers, and improve listening skills.Besides, the teaching method encourages students to discuss and ask questions about each other during learning, which can increase students’ classroom participation and enhance their interest in learning. At the end of the thesis, the significance of the results of this research is summarized through discussions of experiments, hoping to bring suggestions and inspiration to some English teachers.
