A Practice Report On E-C Translation Of Bird Science Texts

With the rapid development of science and technology and the continuous improvement of the national knowledge level,the work of popularizing science has become more and more important.In order to adapt to the development of human society,more and more popular science works show strong vitality,and constantly provide fresh nutrition for human society.The translation of popular science works has become a bridge and means to popularize scientific knowledge to the public.At present,there is still a lot of room for progress in the translation research of popular science texts on animals,especially birds.Many scholars have conducted intense discussions on the issue of how to impeccably research popular science texts and how to better apply them to human society.This translation practice report combines the four characteristics of popular science texts,namely,scientific,literary,popular and interesting;through case analysis,this paper analyzes the problems and solutions encountered by the author in the process of the English-Chinese translation of popular science texts on birds,aiming at translating popular science works that will satisfy the public reading interests and popularize the scientific knowledge about birds for the public.Therefore,it can arouse the reader’s attention to the field of bird protection and ecological environment protection,and provide reference for the translation of popular science texts.The author takes advantages of the background knowledge to analyze the popular science text,and uses the means of part of speech,adjusting the word order and adding elements to make the translated text more in line with the reader’s reading habit to fulfil the task of spreading scientific knowledge.This paper holds that popular science works are different from common scientific works,the particularity of which lies in the fact that popular science texts tend to be both literary,popular and interesting.Therefore,the key to popular science translation lies in that the translator should make the translation elegant,popular,lively and interesting,and it is inseparable from the professional knowledge of translations.The focal point of the translation popular science texts is to be consistent with the cultural level and language expression habits of the target language audience.In the process of this translation practice,the author,starting from the four characteristics of popular science texts,analyzes the translation methods of popular science texts of birds,and solves the problems encountered in the translation process,and better contributes to the research of popular science text translation.
