| For language learners,reading is considered to be quite important.How teachers make their reading teaching vivid and interesting,how students make their reading learning effective,how teachers lead them to perform reading well,all of these have always been challenging students and teachers.Under most occasions,teachers emphasize the words’ usage and grammar,ignoring improving students’ reading ability.Much worse,students’ interest can’t be taken into consideration.So,as a result,students are becoming more and more tired of the reading teaching.To solute these problems,the researcher tries to introduce multimodal teaching mode into English reading teaching.Although there have been many previous studies on multimodal application,most of their subjects are from high school or university.Whereas,this researcher focuses it on junior high school.In view of these,two research questions are presented as follows.(1)What are the effects of multimodal teaching mode on students’ reading ability in junior high school with the application of multimodal teaching mode?(2)What are the changes of students’ attitudes to English reading teaching with the application of multimodal teaching mode?The multimodal teaching mode which originated from western countries means the combination of different modes,including listening mode,visual mode and tactile mode.The combination is capable of making the abstract knowledge become the specific one,and turning the difficult into even easier.Meanwhile,teachers apply various symbols to English reading teaching,as well.As a result,a more interesting learning environment is produced,where students can get a lot of richer information and get interested in English reading teaching,too.Two classes with 96 students in total were selected.The experiment was from September to December in 2020.One class with forty-nine students was chosen to be experiment class(EC),in which the multimodal teaching mode was employed.Meanwhile,the other class with 47 students was viewed as control class(CC),and its teaching method was the same as before.Some objective data from two tests before and after the experiment which were analyzed by SPSS21.0 proved its positive effects on students’ reading ability.In addition,questionnaires and interview took the role to explain the changes of students’ attitudes to English reading teaching.From the results of the experiment,the researcher got the following conclusions: multimodal teaching mode has positive effects on students’ reading ability in junior high school,and it has produced some changes of students’ attitudes to English reading teaching. |
