As a famous pianist of the older generation in China,Mr.Chu Wanghua has devoted his lifetime to the development of the Chinese music industry.Countless musical works have been created and adapted by him carefully,covering a variety of themes and genres.Moreover,the piano solo arrangement of Chu Wanghua with the unique creativity caused by the integration between Chinese national elements and Western composition techniques plays a great role in the history of piano.There appear to be more and more scholars to pay attention to and study it.The piano solo arrangement of "A Big River" was composed by Chu Wanghua in 2001.It originated in modern times,resulting in novelty and very few demonstrations of performance as well as the previous one-sided,scattered and less pertinent research.As a result,it is worthy of further research.This paper is divided into three parts.First of all,the creative background and characteristics of Chu Wanghua’s piano solo arrangement "A Big River" are expounded,including theme classification and national elements.Secondly,its musical structure is analyzed.Finally,various difficult performance skills encountered in practice are analyzed specially.How to do exercises and make solutions gradually in face of difficulties is interpreted.The musical expression of stage performance is speculated.It provides some valuable practice and performance experience for later scholars and improves people’s ability to appreciate and understand piano repertoires at the same time.
