A Study On The Creative Language Of The Weathering Steel Sculpture “Flying”

Since the industrial revolution in the 18 th century,metal manufacturing industry has developed rapidly,and metal raw materials such as steel and iron have been applied to urban construction on a large scale.In the field of sculpture,art creators use metal as a direct material for creation.The emergence of weathering steel makes sculpture more than a material language.Weathering steel as a creative material,its relative stability,structural diversity,spatial definition,the presentation of natural symbols,a variety of techniques and other characteristics have a certain artistic value.For example,the colors and textures symbolizing nature and the obvious geometric shapes provide direct material for artistic creation.At the same time,weathering steel is more stable and sustainable than other materials,which is more in line with the concept of sustainable development.In the sculpture creation,on the one hand,we should grasp the characteristics of the material,on the other hand,we should pay attention to the use of artistic language.The research direction of this paper is the artistic language of weathering steel sculpture creation.By discussing the material characteristics of weathering steel sculpture,the feasibility of providing materials for the author’s sculpture creation is provided.Secondly,by interpreting the artistic language of "planar" metal sculpture at home and abroad,it provides theoretical support for the creation of the work "Flying".Based on the above aspects,the author created the weathering steel sculpture "Flying" from the artistic language of the sculpture,such as shape,space and color.The work presents the appearance of natural mountains and rivers in the shape,and highlights the meaning of "dry mountains and rivers" in the texture.The contrast between the two produces emotional contrast,and then appeals to people to respect and love nature.
