What is “barbarism”,It is one of the key questions in the history of the development of Western civilization. This thesis is based on research of the works of Eusebius, the “father of church historians”,in attempting to clarify the textual narratives of “barbarism” made by Eusebius as well as to interpret and reveal its historical significance.Basically, the “barbarism” referred to by Eusebius can be distinguished and expanded in the following two aspects, namely “the barbarism of paganism” and “the barbarism of Christian heresies”.On the one hand, the barbarism of paganism mainly includes the“barbarism” of prehistoric humans and the “barbarism” of the pagan Roman emperor;on the other hand, the barbarism of the Christian heresies mainly includes the Christian Novatians and Moroccan schools.in addition to Mani and other heretics. This thesis argues that through the definition and application of the concept of“barbarism”,Eusebius mainly explains why people are barbaric, either because they do not believe in Christianity(they are pagans),or because they deviate from orthodox Christianity(they are heretics). It is precisely through this structuring and reshaping of the concept of“barbarism” that Eusebius provides the audience with a context of great reference value for the important question of what is “barbaric”,thus effectively serving the spread of early.
