With the transformation from classroom study to teacher study,more attention has been paid to the impact of teacher’s behavior on teaching.The teacher talk,as a carrier in class teaching activities and an interaction medium for teachers and students,plays an important role in helping teachers spread information to students,control students’ behavior,and improve teaching quality.Therefore,the study of the use of teacher talk in English classroom is of great significance.In this paper,according to the input and output hypothesis,and the interaction hypothesis,this thesis studies the current situation of teacher talk of 3 novice English teachers in senior high schools in Guangxi,with classroom observation as the main research method.The study will be conducted from 4 dimensions,including the discourse quantity of teacher talk,the questioning,the interaction modification and feedback manners.Moreover,with the secondary research method of interviewing with 3 teachers and 3 students respectively,relevant data will be collected for analysis and discussion.Thus,existing problems and shortcomings will be located,and relevant conclusions and suggestions will be drawn in this thesis.According to the study,the following phenomena occur in the process of the teaching instruction of novice teachers with little practical experience in English teaching.Namely,novice English teachers’ teacher talk takes so much time that little time left for students in class.The novice English teachers do not speak enough English in English teaching.The types of evaluation ways and feedback manners used by the novice English teachers are not as diverse as possible.There are obviously more displayed questions than referential questions in novice English teachers’ classes.And the novice teachers are relatively weak in classroom design and classroom control.On the basis of the current situation and the existing problems of senior high school novice English teachers’ teacher talk,this thesis puts forward the following suggestions,from the perspectives of novice senior high school English teachers,normal universities,senior high schools and administrative departments.First,the novice teachers should strengthen their studies of the use of teachers’ language and improve their language proficiency to use normative and accurate teacher talk and make a good demonstration for their students.The novice teachers should advance their classroom design and teaching practice,fully understand their students’ English learning situation,and master the proper methods of evaluating students’ English learning ability.And the novice teachers should actively participate in training,make efforts to think deeply,and reflect and make summaries,so as to find out the shortcomings in teacher talk and to gain improvements.Then,normal universities should increase investment and pay attention to cultivating the professional skills of normal students,and to improve their ability to use teacher talk.Next,senior high schools should help their novice English teachers to improve their ability in using teacher talk,through the development of mentor-apprentice pairing project and compulsorily having open classes.Finally,the relevant administrative departments should improve the reward and punishment mechanism and increase investment to provide more training opportunities for novice senior high school English teachers.
