| With the rapid development of modern multimedia technology,great changes have taken place in the textbook compilations,in which various kinds of symbolic resources can be easily found in each part of textbooks.And it can be seen that the composition of a text has changed from the mono-modal to the multi-modal.The application of illustration is an embodiment of multimodality.Illustrations in reading comprehension part play an important role of PEP junior middle school English textbooks.Making full use of the meaning of each mode construction in textbooks can make the reading process more efficiently.Previous studies at home and abroad rarely analyzed illustrations from the perspective of visual grammar.Therefore,this study attempts to make an in-depth study of illustrations in the reading part of PEP junior middle school English textbooks in terms of visual grammar.The purpose of study is to provide enlightenment for teachers and students to understand the representational function,interactive function and compositional function of illustrations in reading comprehension,so as to further improve the reading ability.The results of study are as follows.1)The illustrations in reading comprehension part fully reflect the meaning of representation,interaction and composition of visual grammar,which lays a solid foundation for readers’ reading comprehension.2)The application of different meanings of the elements in illustrations helps to convey the information that different genres of articles need to express,so as to achieve the expected goal of the genre to the greatest extent.3)The application of different meanings of the elements in the illustrations is suitable for the ability development of students of different grades.This is of great help to the cultivation of students’ logical thinking ability.Based on the above conclusions,this study puts forward relevant suggestions from the perspectives of textbook compilers,teachers,and learners,in order to inspire the compliers’ ideas,so that the limited illustrations can contain more profound meaning.To promote teachers to improve the illustration teaching methods,and carry out illustration teaching with visual grammar theory.To help the learners change the way of understanding illustrations,and analyze illustrations through a complete theoretical system,so as to improve the reading ability efficiently. |
