Currently,it is an urgent task and a great challenge for English teaching in China to cultivate students’ comprehensive language use ability and improve their oral output level.Among them,one of the major factors affecting oral English output is anxiety.Anxiety itself is a normal emotional reflection,but excessive or too weak anxiety will have negative effects on people.Previous studies have shown that foreign language teaching researchers combine anxiety with language skills such as “listening”,“speaking”,“reading” and “writing” in an effort to understand anxiety from different perspectives,such as the causes of anxiety,type of anxiety,the consequences of anxiety and how to effectively relieve anxiety and so on.Similarly,for high school students,anxiety has a great impact on their foreign language learning,especially in their oral output.Excessive anxiety is easy to make students bored of oral English learning,resulting in a decline in their interest in oral English learning,affecting their English grade,thus hindering their development and progress.Scaffolding Instruction Model is a situational,interactive and dynamic teaching model,which is developed on the basis of constructivism.SIM emphasizes a student-centered approach.Under the guidance and assistance of teachers,students can build the scaffold,climb the scaffold and complete the goals of independent exploration and collaborative learning.Now,according to the relevant researches of scaffolding teaching mode,on the one hand,most studies at home and abroad are mainly focused on scaffolding teaching mode itself,such as the type of scaffold,how to build scaffold effectively and the teaching process of scaffolding instruction model.However,from the perspective of oral learning and combined with scaffolding instruction model,there are few studies to explore the factors affecting oral productivity.On the other hand,as far as students are concerned,many studies have found that scaffolding instruction model can effectively improve students’ motivation and interest in oral English learning as well as cultivate students’ sense of cooperation.This has a great effect on improving students’ oral output ability.As far as teachers are concerned,scaffolding instruction model,as a new teaching mode,has changed the traditional teaching concepts,enriched the teaching methods,and challenged the teaching ability of teachers.Therefore,this paper attempts to combine the SIM with the oral English teaching of senior high school students,aiming to explore whether SIM can alleviate the anxiety of senior high school students in oral English teaching and improve their output ability.This thesis focuses on the following two questions:1.Can SIM effectively relieve the anxiety of high school students in oral English learning?2.Can SIM effectively improve the oral English production of senior high school students?In this study,8 students from Class 18,Grade 2 and 8 students from Class 20,Grade2,Baota District No.4 Middle School of Yan ’an were selected as the research objects,and both quantitative and qualitative research methods were adopted.Among them,the quantitative research adopts the method of oral test,and carries out pretest and post-test for 16 students respectively which is aim to understand whether SIM can effectively improve students’ oral English output ability according to the differences in the scores of subjects from different classes before and after the test.Qualitative research adopts the method of questionnaire survey,the purpose is to understand whether students can effectively relieve the anxiety in oral English learning after using scaffolding teaching.Finally,an unstructured interview was conducted to understand students’ true thoughts on oral English teaching.The results show that there are significant differences between the oral test scores and the questionnaire survey results of the 16 objectives.There was a significant difference in the oral test scores of the 8 subjects from the experimental class,while there was no significant difference in the oral test scores of the 8 subjects from the control class.In addition,the results of the questionnaire survey show that the 8 subjects from the control class have a stronger sense of anxiety when learning spoken English than the8 subjects from the experimental class.Therefore,it can be concluded that SIM can effectively relieve the anxiety of high school students in oral English learning,and can improve their oral English production.
