A Report On The Translation Of Guardians Of The Revolution: Iran And The World In The Age Of The Ayatollahs (Chapter 3)

The text of this translation project is the third chapter of the Guardian of the Revolution: Iran and the world in the Age of the Ayatollahs,written by American Middle East expert Ray Takeyh.It introduces the Islamic revolution led by Khomeini,and the foreign policies adopted by the subsequent leaders in chronological order.In this project,the translator has learned a lot about Iran's Islamic Revolution and its foreign policy,and has improved his translation ability.In his opinion,this translation project will help deepen the understanding of all aspects of Iran's Islamic revolution and its foreign policy.According to Peter Newmark,the original text chosen for this project can be classified as informative text.In view of this,the translator should follow the principles of informative text translation,regard the authenticity of information as the priority,ensure the accurate transmission of information,and conform to the expression habits of the target language.This translation report enumerates the translation difficulties experienced in the translation process,such as religious,historical and cultural terms and the translation of long sentences.On this basis,under the guidance of communicative translation theory put forward by Peter Newmark,the translator explores how to solve practical problems with this theory through case analysis.The translator also lists the skills he adopted when translating the original text,such as conversion,inversion,division,and amplification.He also summarizes the experience gained from the translation and the problems that needed to be solved.
