Being two superpowers in the world,China and the U.S has economic and trade communications. From the inauguration of 45thAmerican president Donald J.Trump,a series of decrees have been enacted under the name of trade deficit to undermine China’s power. This economic dispute has engaged in much attention for many scholars, but considerable researches focus on the economic phenomenon rather than the implication behind literal texts. In the meantime, critical discourse analysis(CDA)as a common method in interpreting the covert ideology hidden behind context. It provides an appropriate approach to uncover the imperceptible political doctrine of news reports. This research chooses totally 35 pieces of reports concerning China-U.S.economic conflict from two news agencies,The New York Times and The Washington Post.By virtue of the proximization theory framework and self-established small-scaled corpus, the following questions are going to be addressed:(1).What proximization resources are used in this corpus?(2).How proximization resources are distributed in this corpus?(3).What ideology and social value are reflected from the proximization strategy behind these materials? The study results show that:(1)Three proximization resources all being employed in news coverage.Spatial proximization resources captures the lion’s share of the whole proximization resources.Temporal proximization resources rank the second and construe the different lexico-grammatical context from the spatial one.Axiological proximization takes the least occurrences among three proximization framework.(2)The frequency distribution in spatial proximization resources are very uneven, different categories varies widely.Temporal proximization items and axiological proximization resources are much even than spatial proximization.(3)By means of the integrative framework of proximization mode and Fairclough’s three-dimensional analysis mode, many differences on ideologies and social value are exploited. This is the different political, economic and social influences between the China and the United States have caused this trade friction. On the basis of these findings above, some implications can be achieved,Theoretically,it provides a new research framework to CDA.Practically,it offers a unique viewpoint of trade war–technology giant,to elucidate the hidden ideology and bias existed in news coverage of American media.Thoughtfully,it sheds light on how text receivers could be manipulates by discourse makers. It legitimates their movements through the tactics interwoven in the context.
