Vague Target Language And Coping Strategies In Simulated Chinese-English Consecutive Interpreting

As a way to convey information and eliminate language barriers,consecutive interpreting requires interpreters to understand the source language and deliver the target language by comprehension and deverbalization.However,differences in sentence structure and expression between English and Chinese make vague target language appeared.The idea and mood of the speaker cannot be accurately conveyed,thus effectively transferring information and communicating will be achieved only on the basis of clear and accurate expression.Based on simulated Chinese-English interpreting at the 2019 AI World Summit,this paper analyzes the specific meanings of the ideational function,interpersonal function and textual function of the target language from the framework of systemic-functional linguistics,and discusses the causes and the corresponding solutions of the vague meaning of the target language under the three classifications.Through pre-interpreting,revision and summary,the types of vague target language mainly include: vague target language of ideational function,vague target language of interpersonal function and vague target language of textual function.The corresponding solutions are: emphasizing key information,enhancing communicative awareness and increasing textual coherence.Each method is divided into two details to make the solutions more targeted.Through practice and summary,this paper aims to provide the coping strategies and reference for the vague language in interpretation as well as researchers in related fields.
