| Guo Zizhang,a thinker and politician in the Ming Dynasty, has a rigorous academic life and a great reputation. He first advocated the "Confucianism and Buddhism’s double cultivation".He is a representative figure in the confluence of Confucianism and Buddhism in the late Ming Dynasty. However, there are few studies on Guo Zizhang’s thoughts in the academic circles. On the basis of Guo Zizhang’s own writings and the "Chronicles of Guo Gongqingluo" written by his grandchildren as a clue,I conduct the research on Guo Zizhang’s Buddhist thoughts.Firstly, based on the "Chronicles of Guo Gongqingluo" and related letters, introduce Guo Zizhang’s life and main deeds.Through textual research on his family background, writings and friends,we can get a glimpse of the origin and premise of Guo Zizhang’s thought formation.Secondly, from the infiltration of Qingyuan Mountain’s style of study, the ideological guidance of teacher Hu Zhi,family changes and the war that suppress Bozhou’s mess,we traced the origin of Guo Zizhang’s Buddhist thought.Guo Zizhang was born in a scholarly family. He chose Hu Zhi as his teacher at the age of 26.In his early political and academic careers, his status as a Confucian became more prominent. However, after the battle of Bozhou,he believed in Buddhism and devoted himself to promoting "Confucianism and Buddhism’s double cultivation".His thought changes and his dual identities as Confucian and Buddhist give his thoughts unique tension and characteristics. The multi-angle tracing will provide clearer background considerations for analyzing the content of his Buddhist thoughts.Thirdly, delineate the Buddhist sects that Guo Zizhang believes in,and introduce the content and characteristics of his Buddhist thoughts.Starting from Guo Zizhang’s works and related texts,we can search for theoretical and practical evidence about the Buddhist sects he believes in,sum up his theory of causality that integrates Confucianism, and the theory about relation between Confucianism and Buddhism,"non-born" means "birth" and sincerity-based Buddhist thought. On this basis,it can be found that its thought has obvious characteristics, that is,the experience of pragmatism in the world, focusing on the mysterious dream experience of causal induction, and the interaction with ideology of Zhouyi.. |
