A Study Of Female Trauma In David Lynch’s Films

David Lynch,an American director,is known as "Lynch doctrine" because of his gloomy,weird and black humor style.In his films,women are the absolute protagonists.Interestingly,most of these women have experienced physical or psychological trauma,which has a huge impact on their life and mental state,making them unable to live normally.What David Lynch wants to show behind the mutual penetration and entanglement of dreams,illusions and reality created by the images is the spiritual world and psychological crisis of these women who have experienced trauma.From the perspective of trauma theory,this thesis analyzes the symptoms,causes and recovery of female trauma in David Lynch’s films,and how he expresses the conscious world of these women through images,so as to better understand and grasp the female roles in Lynch’s films,as well as the complex human nature and profound theme hidden behind them.This thesis is divided into three parts to complete,namely the introduction,the main body and the conclusion.Among them,the main body is divided into five chapters.The introduction focuses on sorting out and analyzing the current research status at home and abroad,and states the significance of this research topic,research background,research ideas and content,as well as the innovation of this study;The first chapter is the overview of trauma theory,which is divided into three parts: the development of trauma theory,the symptoms of trauma,and the recovery of trauma;The second chapter is the life of David Lynch;The third chapter focuses on the analysis and classification of the female trauma in David Lynch’s films,discusses the specific manifestations of several different causes of female trauma,and explores the hidden secrets and problems in David Lynch’s films from the perspective of female trauma;The fourth chapter analyzes how David Lynch expresses female trauma through audio-visual language from three aspects of narrative strategy,visual impact and musical elements;The fifth chapter focuses on the recovery of female trauma in David Lynch’s films.Through the introduction of the research topic of female trauma in the first part of the thesis,and the detailed interpretation of the film text in the main text,we can draw the conclusion that David Lynch’s film completed the in-depth discussion of complex human nature and the presentation of another hidden world that is opposite to the light and real after the seemingly weird,thrilling,dark and anti-moral appearance.And the real meaning he wants to express is the beautiful yearning for those who are mentally troubled,especially to giving the warm blessings for women who have been injured.
