A Study Of Interpretation Strategies Of Press Conferences From The Perspective Of The Relevance Theory

This thesis applies relevance theory to study the interpretation strategies of Li Keqiang’s press conferences interpretation.Press conference interpretation plays an important role in the dissemination of national voice,which has become the research object of many scholars.For a long time,scholars have studied the interpretation strategies of press conference interpretation from different perspectives.However,these researches rarely study interpretation strategies from the perspective of cognitive context and optimal relevance.According to relevance theory,interpretation should be considered from three aspects: ostensive-inferential model,cognitive context and optimal relevance.Therefore,this thesis attempts to use relevance theory to study the interpretation strategies of press conferences interpretation in following questions:(1)In press conferences interpretation,what kind of interpretation strategies do interpreters adopt under the guidance of cognitive context ?(2)In press conferences interpretation,what kind of interpretation strategies do interpreters adopt under the guidance of optimal relevance?Based on the interpretation of Premier Li Keqiang’s answers to Chinese and foreign journalists’ questions from 2017 to 2020,qualitative analysis and case analysis are adopted in the whole thesis.The results show that:(1)Under the guidance of the cognitive context,interpreters mainly adopt the interpretation strategies of omission,explanatory interpretation and addition.(2)Under the guidance of optimal relevance,interpreters mainly adopt the interpretation strategies of corresponding interpretation and combination.Based on relevance theory,this thesis studies the interpretation strategies of interpretation of press conferences.On the one hand,it hopes to help people better understand the interpretation strategies of press conferences interpretation;on the other hand,it hopes to enrich the application of relevance theory in press conferences interpretation.
