Preliminary Study On No.4 Workshop Kiln Furniture Of Hejin Porcelain Kiln In Shanxi Province

Kiln Furniture is not only the instrument of production,but also an important witness of the development of a kiln,its value shouldn’t be underestimated.Hejin kiln is one of the important kilns in Shanxi province.The discovery and research of its kiln furniture not only have an important influence on the use of Hejin kiln,but also have a great significance to the study of the types and applications of furnishings in Shanxi.Based on the preliminary arrangement of kiln furniture excavated from the workshop No.4 in Hejin Guzhen,this paper studies the kiln furniture from three aspects: type analysis,use method and comparison with other kiln openings by means of measurement,drawing,comparison,and statistics,in order to provide basic materials for the understand of types and use of kiln furnishings in Jin Dynasty of Hejin kiln.The article is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction part,which mainly introduces the summary of Hejin Gu town kiln site,the summary of Workshop No.4,the summary of kiln furniture unearthed from workshop No.4,and from the micro research and macro research two aspects to sort out over the years of kiln furniture and Hejin kiln finishing research results.The second chapter is typological research.Firstly,the classification method of typology is introduced,and the basis of classification is defined.Then,the kiln furniture is divided into three parts: Spacer kiln furniture,Supporting kiln furniture and Saggers;Finally,according to the typology of Hejin kiln,the kiln furniture of each layer in the workshop was compared to find its regular characteristics.Through the comparison and summary of various types,combined with the determination of the times and other factors the conclusion is drawn that the time difference of kiln furniture use between different layers is small.The third chapter is the use of kiln furniture.This section continues to use the upper section of the division of typology,and then the use of Spacer kiln furniture,Supporting kiln furniture and Saggers were analyzed and discussed,the final analysis of Hejin kiln loading and firing methods,the method involved in the type of kiln furniture and the use of the scene.The loading and burning techniques used in the No.4 workshop of Hejin kiln include stack-burning of astringent circles,stack-burning of branch circles,stack-burning of sticky clay nails and opposite-mouth-burning.The fourth chapter is the comparison between Hejin kiln and other kilns.This section compares the kiln furniture unearthed from Hejin Kiln No.4 with those from Cizhou kiln,Longquanwu kiln,Mengjiajing kiln and Yu County kiln in the Jin dynasty,the differences and relations between Hejin kiln and each kiln entrance are summarized.The four kilns in the Jin dynasty had some connections,but all had their own characteristics.Through the systematic discussion on the kiln furniture of Hejin kiln No.4 workshop,it can be seen that the kiln furniture of Hejin kiln is diverse in types and flexible in use.Its installation and burning techniques are popular in the Song and Jin Dynastie’s burning method,but also has its own kiln burning characteristics.
