| Qinqiang Opera, known as Bangziqiang,is one of the oldest opera forms in China.Qinqiang Opera not only inherits the cultural characteristics of western China, but also bears the outstanding traditional civilization of the Chinese nation. There is no doubt that it has great artistic value. In recent years, the translation of Qinqiang Opera has attracted extensive attention from home and abroad. The translation of Qinqiang Opera plays a vital role in promoting the culture of Qinqiang Opera to the world stage. But up to now, studies on English translation of classical Qinqiang Opera is still limited. As a result, how to use effective translation strategies to truly convey the changing styles and cultural characteristics of Qinqiang Opera is a problem which draws the translators’attentions all the time.Dynamic cognitive context is a theoretical method evolved from cognitive context, which not only emphasizes the static exploration of the meaning of discourse from the perspective of semantics, but also analyzes the deep meaning of communicative discourse based on the dynamic cognitive view of cognitive pragmatics.Dynamic cognitive context explores and interprets the meaning of discourse dynamically from four dimensions:situational context, cultural context, contextual context and psychological cognitive context. In terms of these four dimensions, situational context explores the meaning of discourse from the perspective of objective background and non-verbal behavior. The impact of cultural context on meaning is mainly demonstrated in culture-loaded words. Moreover, contextual context plays an essential role in the coherence and cohesion of discourse. And psychological cognitive context lays more emphasis on the subjective cognitive changes of both parties in the process of communication. Therefore,we hold that it is more comprehensive and accurate for translators to analyze and explore the meaning of script of Qinqiang Opera based on the four dimensions of dynamic cognitive context. At the same time, the interpretation of discourse is of significance to the accurate choice of translation strategies. Thus, translators can explore the true meaning of discourse through the four dimensions so as to choose appropriate translation strategies for translation practice. As one of the most representative works of Qinqiang Opera,Three Drops of Blood carries the art form of classical opera on the one hand, and on the other hand,it contains modern ideas and thoughts. It can be seen that the English version of Three Drops of Blood has important implication for promoting the’going out’ of Qinqiang Opera. So far, however, the English version of the script of Three Drops of Blood has not yet appeared. Therefore, the script of Three Drops of Blood was translated by the author from the perspective of dynamic cognitive context to investigate the translation strategies of Qinqiang Opera through case analysis. This study primarily discusses two questions:what is the specific impact of dynamic cognitive context on the meaning of discourse in Qinqiang Opera? How to choose translation strategies and skills in the practical translation of Qinqiang Opera based on the dynamic cognitive context?Based on the two questions, this thesis probes into the choice of translation strategies from the four dimensions of dynamic cognitive context. This study shows the translation strategies of Qinqiang Opera can be summarized as the translation strategies of ’reader orientation’,’writer orientation’ and ’reader and writer orientation’.According to this study, the meaning of discourse is inevitably affected by dynamic cognitive context, which plays an essential role in restricting the meaning of discourse in Qinqiang Opera. The translation of Qinqiang Opera should try to preserve the cultural characteristics of the original script. The translators can adopt ’reader and writer orientation’ strategy to make the target-language readers more deeply feel the unique culture of Chinese classical Qinqiang Opera based on understanding the meaning of the original script. |
