A Practice Report On Trados-Based C-E Translation Of Sci-Tech Texts

In today’s world,the exchanges between China and foreign countries are getting closer and closer,especially with the promotion of the One Belt One Road and other policies,the development of China’s machinery manufacturing industry has entered a new stage.The demand for translation of mechanical science and technology texts is increasing day by day,and higher translation efficiency and translation quality are also proposed.With the progress of science and technology and the development of the times,many CAT technologies have gradually matured and been effectively applied in translation practice.Among them,Trados stands out with its core technologies(translation memory and termbase),and becomes the first choice of CAT technology for many translators,which plays an important role in improving translation efficiency and quality.This translation practice report takes.Rotary Drilling Rig ZR160C-3 Operation Manual as the research object,and explains the Trados-based translation process in preparation before translation,translation process and post-translation procedures in detail.Among them,the content of preparation before translation introduces the creation of translation memory and termbase;the content of translation process combines specific cases to analyze the translation essentials and translation methods during the translation process:lexical level,syntactic level,and textual level.In addition,this report summarizes the three problems that Trados often appear in the translation process at the technical level,and proposes corresponding solutions;the content of post-translation introduces the main points of the project such as proofreading,typesetting and updating of translation memory and termbase.Finally,this report objectively evaluates the translation effects of Trados used in scientific and technological texts and makes further suggestions.This practice report shows that,firstly,Trados-based translation practice can effectively reduce repetitive work,shorten the time of searching words,ensure the consistency of translation,and play an important role in improving translation efficiency and quality,and realizing the sharing of translation memory and termbase.Secondly,some operation steps and processes of Trados are cumbersome,such as creation of translation memory and termbase,which may cause inconvenience to users unfamiliar with Trados operation.Finally,translation practice needs to be closely integrated with professional knowledge and translation technology,so the translator should not only master the use of CAT technology,but also improve their bilingual ability,expand their knowledge and learn professional knowledge constantly.
