| Today,with the development of science and technology,artificial intelligence has been applied to different fields,and has quickly become a hot topic.The rapid development of artificial intelligence creates new opportunities for scientific and technological progress,economic development and our lives.It is the inevitable choice to seize the opportunity to study the academic achievements in this field so as to promote technological progress and innovation.Scientific and technological translation is of self-evident importance in order to help scientific and technological workers understand the latest achievements of scientific and technological development in various countries and carry out scientific and technological cooperation and exchanges with the help of English.Its importance is also self-evident.The development of science and technology requires research scientist to be realistic,so the translation of science and technology to convey information must be true.Functional equivalence theory is a translation thought proposed by Nida,which originated from translation practice and requires the target language to reproduce the source language information to the maximum extent.This shows that the theory not only has a practical guiding role in translation,but also puts forward a high standard for the accuracy and authenticity of information,and meets the basic requirements of scientific and technological translation.This thesis applies,therefore,the theory of functional equivalence to a practical study on translation based on the relevant literatures of machine learning,a sub-field of artificial intelligence.In this translation practice report,two English scientific and technological papers related to machine learning applications are selected as source texts to demonstrate the rationality and feasibility of functional equivalence theory in translating English scientific and technological texts into Chinese.Combining the translation practice of scientific texts,the translator discusses how to choose appropriate translation approaches under the direction of functional equivalence theory to guide the practice of E-C scientific translation from lexical,syntactic and textual levels.At the lexical level,it mainly discusses the methods of translation,such as the selection of word meaning,the translation of terms and the transformation of parts of speech.At the syntactic level,it deals with the methods of translating English passive voice,compound sentence and long difficult sentence into Chinese.At the textual level,it focuses on the cohesion and coherence between words,sentences and paragraphs.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,different translation methods,such as part of speech translation,partial translation and sequential translation,have been applied to the translation of scientific papers in this practice report.The research results show that translation should pursue the highest level of equivalence,and specifically,the functional equivalence at the three levels of words,sentences and texts within the framework of stylistic features or culture of the source text.It is proved that functional equivalence theory is practical and plays a systematic normative and guiding role in scientific and technological translation. |
