| The Greek War of Independence was a national liberation movement of Greece against the rule of the Ottoman Empire from 1821 to 1832.It was also a popular democratic revolution of Greeks against the autocratic rule of the Ottoman Empire. As the beginning of the Eastern Question in the 19 th century and the first victorious national democratic revolutionary movement after the Peace Conference of Vienna,it weakened the influence of the Holy Alliance to a certain extent, inspiring the liberation struggle of the oppressed nations in the Balkans under the Ottoman Empire, and also profoundly influenced the subsequent revolutions of 1848 in Europe. At first, the European powers held a neutral attitude towards the Greek Issue, but with the development of the war, they successively intervened and actively intervened, and finally made Greece become a monarchy under the protection of Britain,France and Russia in 1832.Among them,Britain and Russia played the biggest and most prominent role in Greek independence.Britain and Russia had different Near Eastern policies and attitudes towards the Greek Question. Both sides had common interests and major differences on the Greek Question.During the period of Castlereagh,Britain carried out the neutral policy of the Union of Austrias and Russia, which successfully alleviated the Near East Crisis in 1821.His successor,George Canning, recognized the belligerent status of Greece, and according to the changes of the war between Greece and Turkey,he turned to the "anti-intervention" policy of the alliance with Russia to control the soil on the basis of insisting on the foreign policy of the balance of power of Britain. Finally, relying on the victory of the naval battle of Navarino, the three powers ensured the autonomy of Greece in essence.Under the Duke of Wellington and Palmerston Britain adjusted Canning’s foreign policy, but remained actively involved in the Greek Question until the end of the war.The game between Britain and Russia ran through the whole development process of the Greek War of Independence,so the final independence of Greece is closely related to the game between Britain and Russia around the Greek Question. This paper attempts to review the historical background and development process of the Greek War of Independence,as well as the intervention of European powers, including Britain and Russia,to explore the Anglo-Russian game during the Greek War of Independence and its role and influence on the process of the war,as well as the international relations in the Near East and Europe. |
