Chinese Long history breeds its world-famous Chinese classical cultures.And they are many traditional arts that can reflect the essence of Chinese culture,while poetry inscribed on paintings is an epitome of all.In ancient China,poetry,paintings and calligraphy were aesthetically united into a whole,which gets its reputation for“Three Perfection”,of which the poetry inscribed on paintings are the most intuitive symbol and embodiment.When it comes to the poetry on paintings,it is such a page-turner that make readers immersive in contents.And many poets and scholars in China always keep an idea in their mind that poetry inscribed on paintings is the masterpiece of poetry,and they can indicate the the beauty of art in all respects.On the other hand,only dozens of domestic translators have been undertaking its English translation which still prevents the foreign readers from undersdanding its essence due to its uniqueness in art and essential prerequisits for the translators.Undoubtedly,it is necessary for the professionals to attach importance to it and find out solutions to improve the English translation of poetry inscribed on paintings.Eco-translatology is the main theory available for this research,it is an interdisciplineray theory mainly combined with ecology and translatology,and multi-dimensional selection and transformation are put in the first place in this theory as well as translators’ subjectivity,thus providing a new perspective for exploring English translation paradigms for poetry inscribed on paintings.The thesis states the unique art form,that is the consubstantiality of Chinese painting and calligraphy at first and then analyze the situation of Chinese to English translation of poetry on paintings.And up-to-date translation samples of poems on paintings are collected for following study.Then English translation samples are encoded in Nvivo and three possible translation paradigms are assumed based on the Eco-translatology,content analysis,and sufficient reading experience,i.e subjective translation paradigm,objective translation paradigm as well as combination of subjective and objective translation paradigm.According to the research data,present samples of English translation of poetry on paintings can be classified in above mentioned three paradigms.Among these paradigms,the subjective and objective paradigm have both merits and demerits,and the combination of subjective and objective translation paradigm is the most common and appropriate paradigm.And then,some translation samples are selected to analyze the merits and demerits of subjective and objective translation paradigm.Since professionals home and abroad pay little attention to the poetry inscribed on paintings,and the research about its translation is insufficient,it is necessary find out appropriately optimized E-translation paradigm of poetry inscribed on paintings,which can facilitate the cultural exchanges between China and the world.By doing so,it can enhance world’s understanding of poetry inscribed on paintings so that they can perceive Chinese wisdom of an everlasting light and convey China’s image overseas as a mighty media.
