A Report On English-to-Chinese Translation Of Anthropology Of Nepal:(Excerpts) Under The Functional Equivalence Theory

Cultural globalization is deepening in the world.In the 1990 s,a group of western anthropologists led by Michael Allen gathered in Nepal and conducted detailed anthropological research on various aspects of Nepal.And they wrote this work "Nepal Anthropology" in English.The translator participated in the translation of the third and fourth chapters.Health is the eternal theme of human beings,so the translator chooses the third chapter,Medical Anthropology in Nepal,as the source material for the translation practice report.The source text consists of 11957 English words.Mainly in narrative style,it records the survey and research results of anthropological scholars.The content of the source text involves Nepal’s traditional local medicine and Nepal’s current medical conditions and so on.The translator completes the translation of this chapter from the perspective of Nida’s functional equivalence theory.The translator upholds the three points: “natural,closest and equivalent” of the functional equivalence theory.The translation report is divided into four parts including introduction,translating process,case analysis and summary.In the translation process,the translator adopted literal translation,free translation,annotation,text restructuring and other translation skills to solve the translation difficulties such as culture-loaded words.The translator hopes that this translation practice will introduce this excellent research to domestic medical anthropologists,and that this practice report will provide valuable reference for similar types of translation.
