Emotion regulation has always been a research hotspot in psychology, and cognitive reappraisal,as one of the most effective strategies in emotion regulation, has been widely paid attention to.Recent studies have focused on the role of creativity in cognitive reappraisal strategies, but these findings need to be validated from different perspectives and further consider the role of individual differences in cognitive reappraisal strategies. Therefore, this study first explored the moderating effect of creative cognitive reappraisal on physical disgust, and the effectiveness of creative cognitive reappraisal in regulating physical disgust by individuals with different disgust sensitivities. On the basis of study 1,we further explored the regulatory effect of creative cognitive reappraisal on physical disgust and its EEG components. This study consists of a preliminary experiment and two formal experiments. The pre-experiment stage is mainly to produce standardized experimental materials. In experiment 1,a single-factor in-subject design was used. The independent variables were picture description, and the dependent variables were self-report and physiological arousal indicators.Sixty-two students from Zhejiang Normal University were selected and given cognitive reappraisal materials were presented to the subjects through the experimental process of BLOCK.In experiment 2,a single-factor in-subject design was used. The independent variables were picture description, and the dependent variables were self-report and EEG components.Thirty-nine students from Zhejiang Normal University were selected, and given cognitive reappraisal materials were presented to the subjects through the experimental process of Event. The results of Experiment 1 showed tha, compared with the objective description group and the general cognitive reassessment group, the participants in the creative cognitive reappraisal group significantly reduced the degree of disgust to the physical disgust pictures, and increased the degree of pleasure. The creative cognitive reappraisal group showed lower avoidance attitude towards the pictures of small animals, wounds on the body surface and poor sanitary conditions. In addition, the subjects believed that creative cognitive reappraisal could better alleviate negative emotions. In terms of personality traits, individuals with high disgust sensitivity showed significantly higher emotional response to physical disgust pictures than individuals with low disgust sensitivity. However, there was no interaction between disgust sensitivity and picture description in all three dimensions. In terms of physiological arousal indicators, there were no significant differences in either the LF/HF ratio in heart rate variability or the incidence of peak skin conductance before and after adjustment. The results of Experiment 2 showed that: in terms of self-report,compared with the objective description group, the creative cognitive reappraisal group significantly reduced the subjects’ disgust to the physical disgust pictures, and increased the pleasure degree; In the general cognitive reappraisal group, the margin significantly decreased disgust and increased pleasure. In terms of EEG composition, the LPP amplitude of the creative reappraisal group and the general cognitive reappraisal group at the 650-1000 ms time window was significantly lower than that of the objective reappraisal group in the central parietal region.Combined with the two experimental results, the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Creative cognitive reappraisal in self-report has better effect on emotion regulation; There was no significant difference in physiological arousal indexes. In the EEG component, the effects of creative cognitive reappraisal and general cognitive reappraisal were better than objective description.(2)In terms of personality traits, individuals with high disgust sensitivity have stronger emotional responses to physiologically disgust images. However, disgust sensitivity didn’t affect the moderating effect of creative cognitive reappraisal on physical disgust. |
