As an academic text of sociology,Disability Identity and Marriage in Rural China introduces the process of how women with disability in rural compensate for their disability identity through marriage with interviews and real cases. This report takes it as the source text to discuss the translation strategies and methods, and puts forward the solutions of translation difficulties in practice.Newmark Translation Typology categorizes texts with expressive function, informative function, and vocative function. The source text contains mostly expressive text and informative text. The author proposes that semantic translation can reproduce the meaning and language style of the original text, while communicative translation can settle the differences in syntactic structure, grammatical rules, and expression habits between Chinese and English through translation techniques such as amplification, omission, splitting, and conversion etc.,in order to make the translation easier for Chinese readers to understand and accept. This paper is divided into four parts. The first part introduces the translation task, including the translation background, translation purpose and report structure. The second part is the translation process, which emphasizes on the source text analysis and theoretical feasibility study in the academic text. The third part is case analysis, which is carried out from lexical, syntactic, and textual levels respectively. The last part is the conclusions.
