The source text of this translation report is chapter 4 “Why Social Media is Ruining Your Relationships” in the book Why Social Media is Ruining Your Life.Katherine Omerode has been immersed in the fashion industry and the online media industry for several years.Her experience and losses prompted her to write this book for setting the alarms against social media.Selecting this book as the source text,the author intends to analyze the influence of social media on relationships and offer suggestions.In 1975,George Steiner published the book After the Bible: Aspects of Language and Translation,taking comprehension and interpretation as the combination of hermeneutics and translation,which introduced hermeneutics into translation studies,and divided it into four steps--“trust”,“aggression”,“incorporation” and“compensation”.Guided by Steiner’s hermeneutics,this report analyzes the translated text by using the four steps in the translation process,and selects some typical examples from “Why Social Media is Ruining Your Relationships” and further studies the application of these steps from the three levels of vocabulary,syntax and text.The author hopes that the report will provide valuable insights and reference for translation practice.
