The Analysis Of The Style Of Wen Zhengming’s Lower Case Calligraphy

In the historical development of lower case,following Zhong Yao,Wang Xizhi and Zhao Mengfu,Wen Zhengming in Ming Dynasty once again carry forward the lower case and be praised by the world.Wen began to practice calligraphy at the age of 19,especially in lower case,on which he worked the most.In last Ming Dynasty,the development of commodity economy,the good social and cultural atmosphere,the profound and solid cultural foundation of Wen’s family and Wen’s gentle and honest character were the foundation and guarantee for him to engage and succeed in calligraphic and art activities.At the age of 22,Wen was taught by his father’s friend Li Yingzhen and began the formal study of calligraphy.Li Yingzhen advocated both the formation of personal style and the basis of ancient law,this thought has directly affected the formation of Wen’s personalized calligraphy style.His works are more perfect on the basis of drawing lessons from the techniques of teachers’ works.Besides,according to traditional and learning from the calligraphy in Tang,Song,Wei and Jin Dynasties,his works has lost its rigidity and added more elegance.Finally,in his later years,he formed three artistic features unified under the literati temperament: Firstly,a straight style after learning from Ouyang Xun.Secondly,a gentle and comfortable style learned from the Thousand Character Classic of Zhi Yong.Thirdly,a elegant and gorgeous style learned from the charm in Wei and Jin Dynasties.This article will take “Ah,homebound I go!”,“true reward vegetarian Fateh”,“Zhuangzi Nanhua Jing” which can represent these three artistic styles as examples to analyze and finally draw a conclusion: Wen zhengming’s works in his later years show diversified stylistic characteristics due to the difference in the form and composition of dot strokes formed by different ways to use brush pen,the various features of lower case in his later years were closely related to the calligraphers he studied in different periods,and the formation of his style was consistent with the sequence of learning antiquity.In my opinion,the number,artistic height and style diversity of Wen Zhengming’s works in his later years are the embodiment of his creative ability and can represent his artistic achievements in his lower case.Wen Zhengming’s lower case art is the ballast stone of his position in the history of calligraphy,his works provided a new reference for later generations to learn lower case and had a profound effect.He is venerable and has exquisite calligraphy art.During his more than thirty years as the leader of the “Wu Men Calligraphy School”,he taught calligraphy personally and recommended junior students,promoted the formation of a good cultural atmosphere in the Susong area and the development of calligraphy in the Ming Dynasty.He also promoted the improvement of the overall artistic level.In the true sense,he has reached the realm of learning and art.At the end of this article,combined with my own creations,I demonstrated my understanding of the art of lower case and the mastery of calligraphy techniques,there are still many room for improvement.Through this paper,I have a more in-depth understanding of Wen Zhengming’s process of learning calligraphy and the artistic characteristics of his works.I also feel his infinite personality charm and sincere love for calligraphy.At the same time,he has provided reference for my future creation.The introduction puts forward the background and research status of this article,and briefly describes Wen Zhengming’s life profile,experience of learning calligraphy,family background,etc.
