| Regarding the participatory art that has been widely talked about in recent years, many artists or critics use Claire Bishop’s "antagonistic" aesthetics as a paradigm for research and criticism.Bishop’s antagonistic aesthetics explores the way of “participation” to show the repressed subject differences in the real society. She tries to make this difference manifest and coexist in order to counter the oppressive homogenization force. When it comes to performance art commissioned by the artist in participatory art,Bishop tries to make a more complicated interpretation to illustrate the subversive power of performing art.Bishop once used Althusser to criticize Buryold’s relational aesthetics and tried to transcend the framework of Marxist “reification” and positivist pragmatics, but in the process of argumentation, she did not seem to solve the problem that how the potential of the viewer’s absence make people realize freedom and get rid of the shackles of modernity power,so in the end Bishop can only limit the interpretation to the category of antagonism. The subversive nature of the Delegated Performance lies in the resistance to the operating mechanism of the modern power system, which allows the viewer to discover the power problems that are obscured in daily life.In fact, the art works of the artist Artur Zmijewski, whom Bishop once exemplified, can clearly show this subversiveness.Zmijewski’s performance art works involve the topic of "Bare Life",and Agamben’s negative aesthetics can help us realize the path and method of transforming the potential of "Bare Life" into subversive forces. This article attempts to combine the proposition of "Bare Life",starting from the interpretation of Zmijewski’s works,to explore the subversive and negative power of bare life and its potential. From the state of exception to the bare life, the "normal" of modern society is indeed worthy of vigilance and reflection.Zmijewski’s artistic creation is a profound interpretation of this issue from many levels of theme, form, order, and meaning, and the analysis of Zmijewski’s works will help us to critically contemplate this “normality”.Potential things can exist or not exist. The life potential in Zmijewski’s works exists in an absent form.We mourn the reality of the "Bare Life" of modern people,at the same time,we are shocked by the potential of the Bare Life, therefore,we can regenerate hope.In fact, the discussion about this potential has been running through the context of Zmijewski’s creation. This article attempts to find the source of this potential and its extension from Zmijewski’s series of works;at the same time, with the help of synchronic analysis, the topic is placed in the works of art related to the "fuzzy zone" to demonstrate the nature and limitations of modern people’s "Bare Life",and ultimately dig out the power that can fight against and return to the original state of life. |
