Vocabulary learning is an indispensable part of language learning.Vocabulary acquisition includes vocabulary comprehension ability and productive ability.Lexical inferencing is a cognitive processing process for learners to acquire the meaning of unfamiliar words.Lexical inferencing strategy can help learners acquire vocabulary effectively.In recent years,the effects of lexical inferencing on the breadth and depth of vocabulary have gained much attention.However,there is still much room for research on the effects of lexical inferencing on receptive vocabulary and productive vocabulary acquisition.So this study tries to explore the effects of lexical inferencing strategies training on senior high school students’ English vocabulary acquisition,which helps extend the research perspective from the outside to the inside,so as to understand the processing mechanism of their English vocabulary learning and promote their vocabulary acquisition.Lexical inferencing model and depths of processing are taken as the theoretical framework,aiming to explore the following questions:(1)what is the impact of lexical inference strategies training on senior high school students’ English receptive vocabulary acquisition?(2)What is the effect of inference strategies training on high school students’ productive vocabulary acquisition?The students of two intact classes in a senior high school were taken as the research subjects.The experimental class was trained with lexical inferencing strategies while the control class was conventional teaching.The experimental data were collected analyzed by SPSS23.0.Studies have found that(1)Lexical inferencing strategies have positive effects on the acquisition of receptive vocabulary.Lexical inferencing strategies enable learners quickly acquire and memorize the meaning and form of words,deepening their understanding of the words.(2)Lexical inferencing strategies have positive effects on the acquisition of productive vocabulary.Learners can strengthen the connection between unfamiliar vocabulary and vocabulary mental model by lexical inferencing strategies,and lexical inferencing strategies can promote the deep processing of vocabulary,make the vocabulary fully decoded and promote the production of vocabulary.In addition,vocabulary acquisition under semantic cognitive processing is better with the use of lexical inferencing strategies,while retention of vocabulary acquisition under formal processing is not sustained long.
