"Opinions on Deepening Education and Teaching Reform and Comprehensively Improving the Quality of Compulsory Education" points out that schools should optimize teaching methods,to improve the quality of classroom teaching,we must attach importance to the cultivation of heuristic teaching.Strong English learning ability and logical thinking ability are the specific requirements of junior high school English curriculum standards for students.Metacognitive strategies refer to the strategies that students monitor their cognitive processes and results.At present,one of the most prominent problems in reading teaching in China is that students have great shortcomings in understanding the main purpose of the article,while teachers pay more attention to the words,grammatical points and sentence structure in the article,and ignore the cultivation of reading strategies.Therefore,the author tries to improve the teaching methods of reading,and develop their good thinking qualities.The author studied the following three research questions :Question 1: Can the application of Metacognitive Strategies to English reading teaching help to better the students’ reading habits?Question 2: Which Metacognitive Strategies to English reading is used most frequently?Question 3: Can the application of Metacognitive Strategies to English reading teaching help to improve the students’ reading achievements?101 junior high school students from Yantai,Shandong province,took part in this 17-week experiment.56 students in the experimental class use metacognitive strategies to learn English in reading,while 55 students in the control class use traditional teaching methods.It is found that the application of this strategy cultivate students’ good reading habits and significantly improve their reading comprehension performance.
