A Study On The Crown Prince Wanyan Yungong Of Jin Dynasty

Wanyan Yungong was an important political figure in the Jin Shizong period.Wanyan Yong ascended the throne as emperor in Liaoyang Prefecture in1161,change the regime era name to Dading.In 1162 A.D.,the 16-year-old eldest son Wanyan Yungong was appointed crown prince.This was a complete reform of the succession system of the throne in the Jin Dynasty and had a great impact on the politics in the Late Jin Dynasty.Wanyan Yungong has rich life experience,formed his own political thought and made some political achievements.After Wanyan Yungong was made crown prince,emperor Shizong of Jin established an Eastern Palace for him and selected important officials for guidance.Therefore,he often interacted with all kinds of elites in the court,especially Han scholars.He gradually focused on the Confucian culture and increased his knowledge.He became a rare artistic talent among the Royal family in the Jin Dynasty,and made achievements in calligraphy,painting and poetry.After emperor Shizong vigorously promoted Jurchen culture in China.As the crown prince,Wanyan Yungong also needs to be proficient in Jurchen language and characters.Under the influence of Han and Jurchen cultures,Wanyan Yungong gradually gathered a group of literate and strategic officials around him after the vigorous cultivation of Shizong,which played an important role in the formation of his political thought and political action.Between1162 and 1184,under the protection of Shizong,Wanyan Yungong exercised his ruling ability and gradually grew into a prince who won the trust of Shizong.He has his own opinions on domestic political affairs,pays attention to people’s livelihood,treats the imperial family well,and has high political sensitivity.Although he has an impulsive character in foreign affairs,he has always resolutely safeguarded his own interests.In1184 A.D.,Shizong decided to go on a tour to Shangjing and leave Wanyan Yungong to deal with political affairs in Zhongdu.This is the first time since Wanyan Yungong became crown prince to handle political affairs relatively independently and test his ability.Wanyan Yungong was modest,cautious and conscientious during his stay in Zhongdu.But the good times didn’t last long,only a year later,Wanyan Yungong died in Zhongdu Chenghua Palace at the age of 39.In short,as the crown prince with the longest term of the Jin Dynasty,Wanyan Yungong was deeply valued by Emperor Shizong.His early death was a heavy blow to Emperor Shizong.However,Wanyan Yungong’s political thought and political action affected his eldest son,namely Emperor Zhangzong Wanyan Jing,and had a significant impact on the development of the political history in the Late Jin Dynasty.Wanyan Yungong was an important political figure that cannot be ignored in the middle and Late Jin Dynasty.
