The Analyzation Of The Characteristics Of Zhuang Ji In The Orphan Of Zhao

The Orphan of Zhao is one of the top ten Chinese tragedies and the first Chinese drama to make a splash in the West.It was first recorded in the literature Zuo Zhuan in the pre-Qin period,and Si Maqian in the Han Dynasty compiled a book Shi Ji.Zhao Family based on the historical materials in Zuo Zhuan.In the Yuan Dynasty,Ji Junxiang adapted it into the Yuan drama "The Orphan of Zhao",which further enhanced the literary and dramatic character of the story.For hundreds of years,it has been adapted into drama,opera,film and many other forms.Several years ago,British playwrighter James Fenton adapted the Orphan of Zhao into a play and staged it in London.According to James.Fenton’s version of the play,famous Chinese director Xu Jun made an adaptation of the masterpiece as a musical,and was staged in 2021.I had the honor of watching the musical rehearsal process and at my graduation concert last year,I performed the role of Zhuang Ji,so I have had some practical experiences.This theses will focus on the role of Zhuangji in the musical version of “Zhao’s Orphan ",I will have a detailed analyzation,Which contains the music and lyrics of the musical,a thorough analysis of the relationship between the two versions.From the background introduction,story synopsis of the musical version and creation intention of the director,the unique drama structure of the role of Zhuang Ji in the musical version in terms of the characteristic of the voice,body movements and gesture and other aspects in combination.Finally,the Chinese classical dance influences into the characteristics of Zhuang Ji’s body movement,which is externalized in form and contains the identification of Chinese culture.Through the study of this highly representative original Chinese musical will lead people to explore the traditional Chinese values and aesthetics in new original musicals.
