The paper is an English to Chinese translation report of science and technology news from foreign websites,including The Register,JANES,ACS（American Chemistry Society）,R.D.World,SPACE,NEW ATLAS,Science News and NSF（National Science Foundation）with a total number of words amounting 11677.Specifically,the contents of the source text involve computer chip manufacturing,research and development of chemical materials,aerospace exploration,military weapon manufacturing,etc.The sci-tech news of this translation report is objective,and most of the articles are short and concise.At the lexical level,scientific and technological terms and abbreviations are often used in the source text.At the syntactic level,the use of passive voice is in high frequency.Many long and complicated sentences are mixed in the news simultaneously.Under the guidance of Semantic and Communicative Translation of Peter Newmark,the author picks up some typical cases to study from four aspects including news title,vocabulary,syntax and discourse combined with specific translation skills.In terms of title,the author chooses amplification and omission.Translation skills of conversion and annotation are used in vocabulary translation,while division,inversion and the change of voice are used in syntax analysis.Discourse analysis mainly includes two aspects,cohesion and coherence.The author hopes to better understand Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation in real practice through this translation report.Meanwhile,the author hopes this paper can provide references for translators interested in science and technology news translation.
