Idioms are a key part of the Chinese vocabulary system.Chinese people often use them in oral communication,but their structural flexibility and semantic duality have become "stumbling blocks" for international students to learn Chinese.Idiomatic language teaching is particularly important for foreign students to master authentic Chinese expressions and improve their oral communication skills.The advanced stage is a critical period for international students to learn idioms.As an important source and basis for foreign students to learn idioms,oral textbooks should attach great importance to the selection and layout of idioms.However,the published teaching materials for oral Chinese as a foreign language have different levels of emphasis on idioms,and the quality is uneven.Therefore,this paper selects three sets of classic advanced oral Chinese textbooks,"Developing Chinese · Advanced Oral Language(Ⅰ,Ⅱ)" 、 "Advanced Oral Chinese"(Third Edition)(1,2,Improvement Chapters)and "Pre-Advanced Oral Chinese(1 and 2)",through careful investigation and comparison of the selection and arrangement of idioms,it is found that there are some problems in the selection of idioms in textbooks,such as lack of systematization,unbalanced distribution and low degree of conformity between textbooks and syllabuses.In terms of the arrangement of idioms,there are some problems such as incomplete interpretation,few exercises,lack of pertinence and low repetition rate.This paper conducts an empirical study on the inadequacy of teaching materials combined with a questionnaire survey on the learning attitude and acquisition of idioms of foreign students,and puts forward targeted suggestions for teachers’ teaching,textbooks compilation and use.This paper is divided into six parts:The first part introduces the research status of idioms,the reason of the topic and the research contents and methods.The second part puts forward the definition standard of idioms on the basis of predecessors,and explain the difference between idioms and other idioms and their significance in Chinese teaching.The third part makes statistics,analysis and comparison of idioms in three sets of teaching materials and four sets of syllabus from the aspects of selection quantity,distribution,syllable characteristics and structural types,and analyzes the fit with the syllabus,so as to find the characteristics of idioms selection in three sets of teaching materials.The fourth part makes statistics,analysis and comparison on the arrangement of idioms in the three sets of textbooks,investigates the situation of interpretation,practice and reproduction,and explores the advantages and disadvantages of the arrangement of idioms in the textbooks.The fifth part is the questionnaire survey of idiom learning,which investigates the idiom learning attitude,methods and mastery of 61 foreign students in the advanced Chinese learning stage,and puts forward targeted suggestions for idiom teaching.The sixth part puts forward some suggestions on the teaching of idioms in the advanced stage,the compilation and use of teaching materials according to the conclusion of the questionnaire survey and the deficiencies of the textbooks.
