| Grammar is the framework of English learning and plays a vital role in English learning.The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011 Edition)clearly points out that junior high school students should reach the "five goals" before entering high school,and proposes that English teaching should enrich curriculum resources,broaden the channels of English learning,and advocate that students should contact,experience and understand the real language in the context.Now,with the extensive use of various modal resources such as audio and video,classroom teaching discourse has become a typical multimodal discourse.In the process of English classroom teaching,teachers can combine various multimodal means to create a real situational context and provide students with visual,auditory,tactile and other input channels.Therefore,in the process of English grammar teaching,the creation of context is the key way of grammar teaching.Based on the theory of multimodal discourse analysis and context theory,this study attempts to explore the application of multimodal discourse as the presentation form of context creation in junior high school English grammar classes,aiming to solve the following two questions:(1)How is multimodal context created in junior high school English grammar teaching?(2)What are the effects of multi-modal context creation in grammar teaching? In this study,86 students from Grade 2 of a middle school in Xiangxiang City and 7 English teachers of the school are selected as the participants of investigation.Questionnaires,interviews and tests are used to conduct the research.This paper puts forward three steps of creating multimodal context in junior middle school English grammar teaching,namely,analyzing unit theme,determining situational context and combining modal resources.The findings show that(1)In junior middle school English grammar teaching,students prefer setting context teaching;(2)The use of multimodal context can mobilize students’ senses,make students accept and understand the grammar knowledge,and improve the grammar test scores;(3)The creation of multimodal context can stimulate students’ enthusiasm and initiative in class,and also help to create a relaxed and free learning atmosphere,so that learners can experience the real target language environment.The purpose of this study is to explore the creation of multimodal context in junior high school English grammar teaching and present the specific process of the creation of multimodal context,hoping to promote the improvement of teaching efficiency and enable students to obtain more comprehensible input. |
